91直播 Wind Ensemble concert to showcase travel, destinations

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Stephen F. Austin State University's Wind Ensemble will present "A Musical Passport" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the 91直播 campus.

The concert will showcase travel and destinations with pieces from Australia, England and America. Among the pieces to be performed, "Manhattan Roll" by Robert Beaser demonstrates the influence of the legendary New York Philharmonic conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein, according to Fred J. Allen, 91直播 director of bands and of the Wind Ensemble.

"Like Bernstein's music, this upbeat piece shows jazz influence and the vitality of the American music scene," Allen said. "This piece was chosen to challenge our players and to inspire the audience."

Tamey Anglley, 91直播 assistant director of bands, will guest conduct "Spin" by Kris Maloy, while Jonathan Sweet, 91直播 graduate student from LaGrange, will guest conduct "Noisy Wheels of Joy" by Eric Whitacre.

The Wind Ensemble's performance is part of the 91直播 College of Fine Arts and School of Music's Concert Series. Turner Auditorium is located in the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Dr.
